Accessing our Support
To be eligible for support you must have a diagnosis of Asperger syndrome or High Functioning Autism, be over 18 and a resident of Kingston Borough or registered with a GP in Kingston Borough.
If you live in another borough, please contact us to find out how you can access our services.
Health professionals, statutory services or anyone who knows you can make a referral. You can also refer yourself.
In the first instance, please download our AS team referral form 2017 to fill out. You can either post this to us or send it via email to Asperger.Team@balance-cic.com
An initial assessment may last up to 1.5 hours. During this time, we will talk to you about your needs, what support would help and agree on an action plan with you which gives a focus for the support you receive from us.
We offer time-limited and goal-focused support of up to 8 sessions as agreed with you at the initial assessment. Once the sessions have been completed we close our involvement around 1:1 support. If you require further sessions then we ask that you join the waitlist in order to give everyone a fair opportunity. We also encourage you to contact Balance AS Team if further support is needed in the future.
1:1 sessions are:
- to support you on issues linked to living with Asperger syndrome
- to access information and advice on welfare benefits, housing, employment or to help you lead a more independent life.
We offer group workshops that run on a needs-led basis. They last for 1.5 hours and run for approximately 5 weeks. These include:
- Understanding Asperger Syndrome
- Communication Skills
- Anxiety Management
- Building Relationships
- We also arrange one-off information sessions with guest speakers relating to different aspects of daily life.
We run two weekly Drop-In Groups, one for 18-30 year olds and one for 18+. They are held in the same place each week and is a great opportunity to meet new people in a relaxed environment.
We run a Social Group approximately once a month where we participate in a new activity. In the past we have been to the West End to see a theatre production, visited Kew Gardens, had a meal at a local restaurant, been bowling, hosted quiz and film evenings, played crazy golf, visited museums in London, plus much more!
