Connect Up Pilot gets the go ahead!

Balance was thrilled to be awarded a share of the £1m funding from the Department of Health Autism Innovation Fund to roll out a 6 month pilot project using the 3D virtual world.

Connect Up will provide:

  • a forum for adults with Asperger syndrome to provide peer support and mentoring in a 3D virtual coffee lounge on a weekly basis
  • an opportunity to receive advice and guidance from Balance staff delivering workshops once a month in the virtual world
  • a shared focal point around which people can get to know each other, practise interacting, share experiences and coping strategies, and have fun!
  • advice and guidance from experienced support workers in specific areas voted for by individuals involved in the pilot e.g. preparation for employment; keeping safe; communication skills

Balance will be teaming up with our partner organisation Pure Innovations and Hao2, a local social enterprise with expertise in the virtual world to deliver this pilot, which will be rolled out in Kingston and Stockport.

Balance is one of 42 successful organisations, out of 360 who applied for a share of the funding, and we are very excited to be leading something so innovative and which has the potential to make a big impact for many individuals with Asperger syndrome. Watch this space for updates on how it’s going.
