Through delivering excellent services, leading by example and influencing policy decisions, Balance will break down the barriers that prevent vulnerable people achieving their life goals.
Balance is passionate about the work that we do; we believe that all people should be given a fair chance in life. There is nothing more satisfying then watching a person flourish and become the person they wish to be, often this is achieved by enabling the person to do this for themselves with our guidance.
How we started
2004 – Andrea Biggs, our Chief Executive, joined Kingston Council to establish a robust supported employment project for people with physical disabilities and those with a learning disability.
2007 – Andrea secured funding from Adult Social Care at Kingston Council to establish a holistic support service for adults with Asperger syndrome in Kingston. This was one of only a few such services in the country.
2008 – Andrea secured her first large externally funded contract through the European Social Fund (ESF) to pilot a mental health project focused on people receiving psychological therapies through primary care services.
2011 – Andrea and the team began the journey towards becoming a social enterprise in response to impending funding reductions within Adult Social Care.
2013 – on 1st May, Balance launched as a social enterprise!! This was a huge achievement for Andrea and the team, and we have grown and developed significantly since. Please see our News stories for updates on our successful growth since 2013!
